You’ve been spotted in a variety of cool outfits for the promotion of Bareilly Ki Barfi, what was your favourite?
It’s true I was lucky enough to wear some amazing looks during the press junkets for Bareilly Ki Barfi. My focus was very much on Indian and ethnic designers. There was one sari dress by Payal Pratap that I LOVED. It had the look of a sari, but the effortless wearability of a dress.

So tell us about your upcoming release
Well, as you know, it’s called Bareilly Ki Barfi and it’s a very fresh, quirky romcom. When I heard the script for the first time, it was narrated to me, which was absolutely hilarious – I was crying with laughter all the way through. I knew then that I just had to do the film.

The story focuses on a love triangle between a printing press owner called Chirag, played by Ayushmann Khurrana and his employee Pritam, played by Rajkummar Rao and my character Bitti, an outspoken, liberated village girl who lives life on her own terms.

So not your usual female lead?
Bitti is very determined and strong, almost tomboyish in a sense. She’s at an age where there’s pressure to marry, but she refuses to give in – until she meets the boys, that is! That’s when things become… complicated!

How easy was it to relate to your character?
I connected most to her broad way of thinking. She doesn’t follow the norm. She challenges what it means to be a girl in India.

What was the wardrobe like?
Well, she doesn’t care much for fashion, so half the time I was in jeans and a kurta top with barely any makeup - very ‘off-duty’. It actually took longer for Ayushmann and Rajkummar to get ready! I was done in half an hour.

What was your favourite moment on set?
It was all such good fun! The entire crew and cast got on so well together, which is important when you’re shooting on location. Filming was very entertaining, but what was really nice is we became one family that ate together and lived together.

So, what happens at the end of the film? Does Bitti get hitched?!
Not saying! You’ll have to watch the film and find out for yourself!

Bareilly Ki Barfi is out in cinemas now.
