We look back at her most wed-worthy looks

The question of what Sonam Kapoor will wear at her wedding events was probably the first thought for most of us when we heard the Indian actress had said yes to long-term boyfriend Anand Ahuja.

As well as coming from a family of movie legends and forging a career as one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood, Sonam is known for continually raising the bar when it comes to the style game.

From the Cannes red carpet to Paris Fashion Week, Sonam is India's fashion icon. She appeals to both Eastern and Western audiences - one of the reasons that fashion crown sits so firmly on her head.

We take a look back at her best couture looks, and what event they could be worn for, before she prepares to tie the knot on 8th May.

Perfect for: the bridal shower or garden engagement bash

The star effortlessly carries off this voluminous Dolce & Gabbana gown, which she wore on the Cannes red carpet in 2013. With its corset-style top and full skirt patterned with gorgeous blooms, we'd see this at a girly afternoon tea or a garden party gathering. Keep hair simple and makeup fresh to stop this from looking too prim and proper.

Perfect for: the Mehndi party

We adore Sonam in this stunning red threadwork Shantanu and Nikhil lehenga, which she wore three years ago while promoting “Dolly Ki Doli” promotions. It conveys that delicate mix of rebel and regal. The asymmetric blouse sleeves is ideal for the Mehndi, when you'll need your arms free so the artist can do their thing.

Perfect for: dancing at the Sangeet

Anamika Khanna’s pastel hybrid dhoti sari, worn at Cannes Film Festival in 2014 is just the ticket for a big boisterous pre-wedding party like the sangeet. Why? It’s contemporary, light and loose - crucial for when you want to throw some shapes on the dance floor.

Perfect for: the Anand Karaj

This Abu Jaani and Sandeep Khosla lehenga is the perfect union of dramatic detail and traditional cuts. Sonam first donned this stunning piece at the label's 2015 BMW Bridal Fashion Week show.

It's a look that's stood the test of time and as Sonam’s wedding invite indicates there will be a traditional Anand Karaj, we think something like this outfit is a serious bridal option. This lehenga is perfect for appeasing family happy with traditional reds but has enough of a modern twist to turn heads.

Perfect for: the alternative traditional ceremony outfit
It’s no exaggeration* to say the Neerja award-winner brought the Internet to a complete standstill when she closed the AW17/18 preview show for legendary couturiers Ralph & Russo, with whom she enjoys a close relationship.

We love the figure-hugging gown finished with the heavy embroidery and full sleeves. We're more than a little bit in love with this look - can you tell?

*Okay, minor exaggeration

Perfect for: shining at a star-studded reception

As Bollywood royalty it's safe to assume dad Anil has invited the legends of Indian cinema to his daughter's wedding. Add in Sonam's own glittery connections and that makes for a galaxy of stars partying it up at the reception. To stand out, we love the custom-made Elie Saab gown that floored us all when she glided on to the Cannes red carpet last year.

The cut and colour are incredibly flattering, the metallic sheen of the gown adds luminosity to her skintone, while the silhouette hugs her trim figure like a glove. This ornate look needs little more than tousled waves and minimal yet glam makeup to make it complete.

Whatever she chooses to wear, Sonam Kapoor's wedding is one of the most anticipated celebrity style events of the year. We can't wait for 8th May!
