Saba & Imran

Saba & Imran

A classic love story

ARTICLE BY : Abha Shah

I’ve known Imran since school. He is quite traditional and first asked my parents for my hand in marriage before proposing to me on Valentine’s Day.
I was sure that I wanted to enlist the services of a wedding planner to organise the day. I wouldn’t know where to begin in planning such an important occassion on my own! Imran and I selected Zara's Catering Services as our wedding planner; they take care of everything from food to the venue, flowers and decor and the cake. I am blessed that my new sister-in-law is a wedding planner. Nasra and I have similiar tastes, so there was absolutely no stress on my part with her planning my wedding.
We had our October wedding in a beautiful marquee at Woolston Manor Golf & Country Club in Chigwell. The reception party was hosted the next day in The City Pavilion. It’s a testament to the trust I had in Zara’s Catering that I didn't even visit the venue to see the final decorations. The team is fantastic and the company have some truly amazing decor pieces with an extensive in-house collection of stages, centrepieces and props.
The main celebration was held in the day for which I wanted white, classic romance with flourishes of fresh roses. The evening reception however, was all about the glitz and glamour!
My husband has a huge family so they hired no less than five Rolls Royce Phantoms to get to the venue; one for each family member! There was also a Hummer stretch limo for the children. I didn't get to see his entrance as I arrived seperately - it’s only now I’ve seen the video that I can see for myself how extravagant his entrance was!
The Nikkah was held in separate spaces after which I walked up the aisle to melody of my favourite song to join my new husband on a stage in front of all our family and friends.

For both the Mehndi and the wedding day  Zara's Catering provided the food while Sapna catered the sit down dinner at the reception party. Zara's Catering Services also provided our cake, matching the wedding theme of white romance. Following all the events, we served canapés and drinks to our guests.
For photography and videography Imran and I agreed on Kushi Media, who I had seen in action once before at my best friend’s wedding. We had a large team for both the wedding and reception, working on the photos and the video. No project is to big a job for Kushi Media. They will do anything in the quest for amazing footage. Even sitting in an open car boot to get the perfect shots of us arriving at the venue! It can be difficult having a camera in your face all day, but Kushi Media work unobtrusively to create iconic images that you will love.
We were entirely content to rely on their expertise and I knew that the final cut would be something Imran and I would both cherish. We chose to have more cameras for the reception, suspending some from cranes to get aerial shots to record our huge party. The film and photos really highlighted how stunning the venues were dressed. You don't appreciate your Big Day at the time because it’s very overwhelming, so to have a high quality video is essential!
We had the Aman Hayer Entourage as live entertainment for the reception the day after our Nikkah. As well as a DJ, we had a few other surprises on the night. My brother-in-law booked the Bhangra Bots, a troupe of giant dancing robots that got everyone up and dancing. It was rather alarming, but the sight of robots at our wedding is definitely something I will never forget.

Advice to couples getting married:
Recruit a company that oversees both videography and photography. You’ll have consistency throughout and it saves you chasing after different companies.
Life doesn't stop when you get married, but from that day on, it will be all about you and your husband. Go out, see your friends and enjoy the run up to your day.
My biggest piece of advice is enjoy it. Embrace every moment. It’s not worth stressing about the perfect centrepiece, or where a particular flower should be positioned. Enjoy the time with your partner, your family and your friends. Everything will fall into place on the Big Day.
