Andrew proposed to Sheetal by creating an elaborate scavenger hunt throughout Melbourne. Sheetal says: “I was surprised by Andrew when I arrived home after brunch, to see a letter waiting for me at our door. What followed, was a series of letters at home and in different locations around the city to all the places that were significant to us. It ultimately led me to the Royal Botanic Gardens (One of our favourite places in the world!) where Andrew was waiting for me on one knee. He had given meticulous attention to detail from stickers used to seal each letter to the music that was playing in the Uber. It was us to a tee, and just perfect!”

The Venue
“Carousel is an iconic wedding venue which is very accommodating to cultural weddings. It’s bright, light and great for daytime ceremonies.”

The Décor
“Cecilia Fox created our amazing décor, with real flowers on the mandap, and I made my entrance under a gorgeous floral lattice.”

“As it was the first wedding on both sides of the family, there was a lot of excitement all around. One of the biggest challenges personally, was getting the right balance. We wanted to preserve the elements of a Hindu wedding, but we still wanted the wedding to feel very us.  We  had three events in total: A haldi, with a big yellow balloon backdrop, a mehendi held in the evening, with vintage style props and bright colours, and the main day was about minimalism accented with florals! With regards to my bridalwear, my bridal sari was from Nalli, it was a traditional Kanchivaram silk saree in red, and the lehenga was by Sabyasachi.”

Reception
“After the ceremony we had a sit down lunch. The menu was a combination of South and North Indian food with Mediterranean entrée options to cater for our non-Indian guests. We also had personalised cocktails on the menu, including a Jaipur Fizz. During the speeches it was really touching to hear our parents speak – especially my dad, as he is a man of few words!”

Reflection
“You spend so long planning a wedding, it’s almost a shock when the day comes. Take some time out with your husband on the day, even if it’s for 5 minutes to enjoy the momentous nature of the event!”
