“Life long love just became official,” read Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan’s Instagram post, just hours after he tied the knot with Mumbai-based designer Natasha Dalal. The actor posted two photos from his wedding ceremony held on Sunday, January 24, 2021—the first snapshot shows the couple being showered with flower petals and the second one is of the two of them during the pheras. The childhood sweethearts were originally scheduled to get married in summer of 2020 in an intimate wedding on a private island in Thailand, but in light of the coronavirus outbreak, the couple decided to postpone the nuptials.
In keeping with the lockdown restriction, an intimate crowd of 50 guests was invited for the festivities. Along with close family and friends, designer Manish Malhotra and filmmaker Kunal Kohli were spotted. Dhawan and Dalal wed at Alibaug, a small coastal town close to Mumbai and touted as The Hamptons of the Maximum City. An idyllic resort called The Mansion House was chosen as the wedding venue. The property boasts sprawling lawns that are peppered with palm trees and exclusive event spaces. Renowned planners Shaadi Squad were enlisted for the special occasion, while the décor was done by Eventshoppe by Sumita Ghai. Pictures show the space was decked up in pink and white flowers.
The celebrations kicked off with a haldi and mehndi ceremony. Celebrity mehndi artist Veena Nagda did the bride’s henna design. For the haldi, the groom’s friends were seen in matching tees that read Team Raghu, probably to denote Dhawan’s character of the same name from his 2015 neo-noir action thriller film ‘Badlapur’. The groom can be seen posing for the camera, flexing his muscles and all slathered in turmeric paste. For one of the pre-wedding ceremonies, Dhawan opted for an ivory deconstructed sherwani by famous menswear designer Kunal Rawal.
For the main ceremony, Varun Dhawan chose a statement ivory sherwani by couturier Manish Malhotra, which was intricately embroidered with gold and silver zardozi work, and came with a textured fabric churidar. The look was rounded off with an aqua blue stole and a striped turban in chanderi along with matching mojari. Dalal twinned with her groom in an ivory lehenga accented with gold and silver detailing from her eponymous label. She complemented her bridal ensemble with diamond and emerald encrusted jewellery, along with silver custom kalire by Mrinalini Chandra. Makeup artist Namrata Soni finished off her look with soft smoky eyes and dusky pink lips, while her hair was styled in a half-up, half-down ‘do.
