A performance by Rihanna, 500 hundred dishes and a multi-million-dollar budget… Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding celebrations were second to none. Of course, a constellation of 1,500 stars descended to Gujarat for the three-day festivities that kicked off in March 2024. The guest list didn’t end with Bollywood royalty, sports legends and prominent names in India. Tech, finance, political and media moguls from across the world were present to celebrate the happy couple.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan; multi-talented musician Adam Blackstone; American businessman and philanthropist Bill Gates along with his Melinda Gates; and American businesswoman Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner were some of the high-profile international figures who jetted to Jamnagar. While these industry giants are often spotted in their easy-going uniforms, they brought out the big designer guns for the occasion. We mean designer Indian wear in all its glory. Ahead, we decode some of our favourite Indian looks spotted on international celebrities.
Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan chose Rahul Mishra
A number of pieces from Delhi-based Rahul Mishra’s latest collections won Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan’s vote. For one of the evening festivities, he opted for a coordinated ‘Verdure’ Bundi (waistcoat) in pastel hues, along with a silk kurta (tunic) in ‘Lime’ and straight fit trousers. Priscilla matched him in a hand embroidered ‘Verdure’ skirt in beige along with the three dimensional ‘Kissing Cranes’ bralette top.
Our favourites were their looks on day 3—Priscilla wore a blue hand embroidered ‘Mushroom’ sari along with a coordinating sequinned bralette top. And Mark chose a hand embroidered ‘Tree of Life’ sherwani in ivory, along with and straight fit trousers.
Bill Gates opted for Label Crestelli
Bill Gates, who showed up formally for all the festivities, dressed up in Indian wear for the Mela themed night. The billionaire wore a black silk kurta with matching pants and teamed it up with an embroidered open sherwani jacket, all courtesy of Label Crestelli.
He then stunned with the brand’s custom beige embroidered bandhgala set, featuring intricate embroidery. Wife Melinda complemented him in a black sari.
Ivanka Trump picked Manish Malhotra
Former US President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump glammed up in Manish Malhotra looks for the Jamnagar gala. For the first event on March 1, ‘An Evening in Everland’, Ivanka glittered in the designer’s signature sequinned sari created in opulent shades of gold and silver, while her husband Jared opted for a classic black bandhgala.
Her second look was an elegant lehenga featuring intricate work all over by the couturier. She completed the look with diamond and emerald jewels.
For Anant and Radhika’s Hastakshar ceremony, Ivanka wore a lime green Kashmiri lehenga set from the shelves of Manish Malhotra. Her daughter, Arabella Rose looked ethereal in a yellow lehenga, whereas Jared went for a powder blue kurta with a navy bandi.
Karlie Kloss leaned on Amit Aggarwal
Supermodel Karlie Kloss graced the festivities by adding a touch of glamour to the grand celebration. She left everyone mesmerized by picking a metallic Amit Aggarwal sari. The gradient winged creation, from the designer’s latest collection, is inspired by the delicate yet majestic fin of a fish, features a skeletal structure that mimics a fish-fin’s intricate design. The ensemble was impeccably paired with a moulded corset top, adding a modern twist to the traditional Indian attire.
