Finding the right hair and makeup artist for you at the top of any bride’s agenda. There are hundreds to choose from, but if you happen to live in London, one of the best is Runa Mirza. The makeup artist, who also does mehndi, is regularly showcased in Khush Wedding, creating elegant looks for fashion and beauty shoots. But her true passion is making up real brides, helping them shine a little brighter on the biggest day of their life.
She tells us about her inspiration and love of makeup.
Have you always been passionate about makeup?
“Yes, absolutely. From an early age, I’ve loved the transformative power and magic of makeup. I began by practicing on willing family and friends before I decided to take the plunge and become a hair and makeup artist full time. I love watching a bride’s face as she sees the look I’ve created for her on the morning of the wedding. But I’m passionate about teaching too, and now share my skills through my training academy, based in London.”

Meeting face-to-face for a consultation is invaluable and absolutely essential. I have a chance to get to know you as well as your beauty tastes. It helps if you can bring your outfit, dupatta or hijab and any jewellery with you because this can often inspire the makeup look.”
“I draw inspiration for my makeup looks from so many places. Obviously Bollywood and Asian couture trends help me develop new styles, but I also love art and design. To be creative you must have an open mind.”
