Autumn Cover look

seasonal shades provide inspiration for a classic bride

For Khush’s autumn issue, we wanted to strip things back and celebrate the basics, taking inspiration from the rich hues and textures of autumn. The reds, coppers and caramels of the season translate wonderfully into bridalwear and we’ve used exquisitely set jewellery to breathe new life into a time-honoured classic.

 OUTFIT

Gul’s Style houses an impressive wardrobe of bridalwear and the moment we laid eyes on this lengha, we knew the fate for Khush’s autumn cover was sealed. The muted bronze and antique gold tones provide the perfect backdrop for dazzling craftwork and painstaking embroidery that makes up the body of this creation. Positioned to celebrate the female form, the detail is cut to elongate the torso and adds movement to the bottom portions with curved panels, embedded with deep red stones throughout that serve as an accent colour for the pleated underskirt below. Using colour in this way the lengha keeps in line with tradition all the while drawing the eye seamlessly downwards, helping our model appear taller and slimmer. With such attention focused on the body, we found no need to sheath the arms, prefering to decorate them instead with Kundan jewellery. An updated traditional look for today’s contemporary bride.

 JEWELLERY

There’s a time and place for minimalist jewellery, but in the case of a traditional Asian wedding it’s hardly ever! An outfit this heavily decorated requires a high impact jewellery set, which is why we chose this Kundan necklace and earring collection. Individual stones are cast in foil and then set to a framework, forged in a floral and teardrop design. The stone inserts are a shade or two lighter than the beadwork on the lengha to prevent the overall look from becoming over-coordinated while retaining a sense of regality. The nath is worn by cultures from across the Subcontinent, making it an intrinsic part of South Asian heritage. The one chosen for the cover, from Anees Malik, was selected as the hoop wasn’t overpowering yet the chain had detail, adding interest and movement. A trio of bangles, dominated by red, relates back to the wedding gift a husband used to bestow on his bride, and here adds a hint of colour to an otherwise minimal arm. The Kundan bangles complete the opulent look.

Necklace/Earrings: Red Dot Jewels £250
Ring: Anees Malik £35
Left Bangle (pair): Generations Accessories £15
Red Bangles: Generations Accessories £4
Right Bangle: Red Dot Jewels £45 each
Armlet: NK Collection £35
Nose Ring: Anees Malik £25

 MAKEUP

Every bride loves a smokey eye and while ebony has traditionally been used to create depth, this season warm copper undertones and deep browns along the lids add drama without the severity of black. Joshiv and Amrit began prepping our model’s skin with a primer for a pristine canvas before smoothing on MAC?Studio Fix Foundation. Next, rich browns and coppers were blended onto the lid for a soft smokey look followed by a highlighter on the brow bone and the inner corners of the eye, adding a gentle sparkle. Focus moved to the apple of the cheeks with an infusion of warm peach blush and topped with a dusting of highlighter, blended to a soft gleam. Strong lips dominate this vintage look, and extra staying power was achieved with the application of a lip liner as well as lipstick, stroked on with a brush and then blotted to avoid excess product.
