Seema M’s brand is a mélange of intricate embellishments, unique patterns, heritage precious and semi-precious natural stones, beads, Swaroski crystals and pearls. She believes these are quintessential to traditional Indian outfits, and that the contemporary feminine silhouettes render individuality to modern Bridal wear. Her designs are very unique, effortlessly stylish and yet rooted in Indian tradition.
Tell us about your fashion journey and how you founded Seema M?
I studied Fashion Design in Mumbai, and discovered the importance of bespoke designing while shopping for my brother’s wedding. Unimpressed with choices, I decided to create my own swatch using stones from my mum’s old jewellery! Since then, jewels and hand-embroidery have always been an integral part of my designs. I started my studio in Gujarat in 2010, and since then, have catered to a diverse clientele across India. After moving to London I set up Seema M in 2018. All outfits are conceptualised and designed by me and embellished and produced by my in-house team of artisans in India. We do not outsource anything, and have total control over each aspect of outfit creation – everything is made with the purest of fabrics and high quality embellishments.

Describe your design process
We start with a consultation with the bride, sometimes brides have a mood board which helps me dive into their minds. As jewel work and hand embroidery is at the centre of the outfit, my focus is to understand what colours, tones and textures are preferred. We discuss the silhouette, neckline, fabrics, colour-palette, and then create a sketch, and move to measurements. After this, the labour of love begins, and it’s an intense process. The final checks are made and the bride is invited for a trial. I make frequent trips to India to ensure process quality. We also ensure the bride is kept in the loop at all times.
