It’s the second Monday of September, and it has kicked off the Oscars of fashion. After a 16-month-long wait the Met Gala is finally back!  Being one of the biggest fashion events, the Met Gala is more than merely being a fund-raising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The grand celebration is a celebration of fashion, A-list celebrities, and a theme that the attendees give their bold spin on. For 2021, the theme was American fashion, more precisely “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion". From looks borrowed from the archives of America’s most famous designers to new designers giving ensembles their own twist, we saw it all. While everyone killed it at the red carpet, some looks stood out more than others. Take a look at some of our favourites spotted at the red carpet this year.

The cutest couple Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello had a mini date as they made their debut on the red carpet. While Mendes turned up the mercury in a shirtless open leather jacket and black pants, Cabello wore a purple sparkly gown by Michael Kors.

If you can expect someone to take everyone by storm with her brave sartorial choices, it has to be Kim Kardashian. Rewriting the rules for red carpet, she was spotted in an all-black custom-made bodysuit by Balenciaga. She brought to the runway what no one ever had before.

Jennifer Lopez made an appearance on the red carpet with Ben Affleck in a brown Ralph Lauren gown. Her outfit featured her much-loved plunging neckline and a thigh high slit she ruled the runway. Quite like a modern cow-girl look, we say!

The host of the evening, Billie Eilish got heads turning in a peach Oscar de la Renta creation. Volume and drama was added to the ensemble with the full skirt and train. Could we call this a tribute to Marilyn Monroe?
