Sitting down with a cuppa is a famously British past time, but why not kick it up a notch and do it in style at the ultra-luxurious Corinthia hotel in Whitehall, London? It’s the perfect way to begin wedding celebrations with friends, family or your fiancé.THE VENUE Served in the spectacular Lobby Lounge, a space illuminated by a magnificent ‘full moon’ Baccarat chandelier, afternoon tea at this 5-star hotel is amongst the most luxurious in the capital. With eclectic seating, fragrant floral displays and custom-made William Edwards' china, the Lobby Lounge is a glamorous venue to indulge in a scrumptious tea. If it's sunny, take your tea in the maple-tree lined enclosed courtyard.THE TREATS The beautifully presented selection of delicate finger sandwiches made on artisan breads includes Loch Var Smoked Salmon, Creamed Inne's Goats Cheese and Cucumber, Roast Sirloin of Beef topped with Creamed Horseradish, Goosnaugh Cornfed Chicken with Ale Mustard and the simple but excellent Organic Egg Mayonnaise with Micro Watercress.Crumbly scones arrive warm from the oven, alongside preserves and clotted cream. Exquisitely crafted English tea fancies (small cakes and other confections), such as the incredible Salted Caramel, round off this bountiful feast making it a supremely indulgent way to enjoy a British classic.THE TEA A dedicated 'tea sommelier' is on hand to present a range of perfectly-formulated brews with everything from quintessential English Breakfast to a Wedding Tea created exclusively for brides-to be on the menu. Laurent-Perrier NV Champagne is available for an extra layer of decadence. THE KHUSH VERDICT It’s the level of service that really sets the Corinthia’s afternoon tea experience out from the crowd. Staff are attentive but never unobtrusive and replenished the tea, champagne and our favourite sandwiches and cakes frequently. The Lobby Lounge can get fairly busy (particularly during the weekends) but we felt looked after throughout the afternoon. All in all, a high class high tea.
The Corinthia’s Afternoon Tea is served 2:00pm to 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 12pm to 6:00pm Saturday & Sunday. High Tea begins at £50 per person, £55 with a flute of Laurent-Perrier NV or £60 with a flute of Laurent-Perrier Rosé NV.www.Corinthia.com
