With its gorgeous landscape, idyllic beaches and world-class spas, Bali has all the hallmarks for a romantic break, so where better to spend your honeymoon? Nestled beyond the charming village of Ubud, with its fascinating market, art museums and galleries, boutiques and restaurants, sits Maya Ubud Resort & Spa.
Framed by the Petanu River Valley to the east and the rice fields of Peliatan to the west, the resort is a tranquil ten hectares of tropical gardens and thatched buildings, private pool villas and luxury guestrooms. For an unforgettable escape with attentive service, Maya Ubud Resort & Spa awaits.
Designed by award-winning architects, Maya Ubud Resort & Spa is the perfect marriage of new and traditional concepts in design. Old cart wheels have been upcycled into mirror frames and traditional fish traps and baskets reincarnated into lamp shades. Indonesian heritage is present in the eclectic collection of antiques in the spacious lobby, the three restaurants and villas.
Balancing the senses through holistic harmony is elevated to the highest level at the Spa at Maya. From the simplest treatment to an extended sensory journey, skilled therapists have one goal – to create memorable experiences for newlyweds. Descending to river level is like entering a secret world of pampering. The soothing river valley creates an ambience of tranquillity while sunlight filters through the treetops, highlighting the beautiful surroundings. Walkways wind through lush foliage to private treatment pavilions, complete with daybeds – ideal for post-treatment relaxation. With views to the rainforest valley on one side and vertical gardens to the other, the pavilions are personal havens in which to enjoy specialty massages, invigorating treatments and revitalising facials. Therapists use rich micro-emulsified gel and age-defying collagen booster treatments - for both him and her – to compliment the entire body and banish any lingering wedding stress.
Couples feeling peckish after a massage or facial can head to the River Café, situated on the Spa at Maya level by the stunning infinity pool. The café prides itself on using vegetables and fresh herbs from the hills of Bedugul, and ingredients are designed to nourish the body, mind and soul. Clean, fresh, natural and crisp, the River Café boasts a selection of vegetarian and gluten-free choices and ‘conscious cuisine’ options. Wholesome food at it's finest; the River Café helps maintain a complete balance of wellness while at Maya Ubud.
Maya Sari is the resort’s signature restaurant, with indoor dining and service on the terrace. The sumptuous sunrise buffet is enhanced with classic Balinese mornings while dinner is a feast of international and local favourites. But as your honeymoon is a special occasion, why not arrange a private dinner under the stars amongst the swaying palms in quiet seclusion? Positioned high above the river valley on the upper pool deck, newlyweds can enjoy six courses with a private butler service to cater to every whim.
The resort’s sister restaurant is Maya Sari Asiatique, which includes specialty dishes from countries of the region, including Thailand, China, India, Japan and of course, the Indonesian Archipelago.
Traditional Balinese cuisine plays a major part in the culture and religion of this captivating island, and a cooking class is the perfect way to recreate the tastes of the honeymoon when you come home. After a tour of the Organic Spice and Herb Garden, couples will be shown simple, but sumptuous, dishes under the eyes of friendly tutors.
Thrillseekers have a variety of activities to choose from, such as a leisurely hike across the Petanu River. The trek allows you to see the sights, sounds and scents of the region, taking in the traditional Balinese villages and the rice terraces. Or, get on your bikes to see amazing historical sites and ancient temples while absorbing the beautiful landscape. Complete your stay with an exhilarating white-water adventure on the Ayung River, where you can enjoy unspoilt views and discover waterfalls along the river.
While a visit to the village allows you to mingle with locals, the resort can book excursions for you to meet some of Bali’s non-human residents. From Sumatra to Kalimantan, Africa to India, some of the worlds most beautiful and exotic creatures reside at Bali Safari and Marine Park. Meanwhile at the Bali Elephant Safari Park, couples can touch, feed and ride an elephant through the tropical jungles of Bali. They say an elephant never forgets, and neither will you after an encounter with these magnificent creatures.
It would be a shame to journey all the way to Bali without witnessing its rich cultural heritage firsthand.
The Bali Agung theatre is the ideal venue to see 'the legend of a Balinese goddess'. Featuring 150 people, 40 puppets and more than 30 animals, (including 10 elephants!), the show promises to astound visitors.
However you choose to spend your honeymoon; spa sloth or white water adrenaline junkie, elephant whisperer or feasting under the stars, Maya Ubud Resort & Spa can help you discover the rich cultural traditions of Bali for a trip to remember.
