The year 2023 started on a celebratory note for Masaba Gupta. The Mumbai-based designer and beauty entrepreneur is renowned for creating outfits that celebrate colours and bold prints for a contemporary Indian woman’s festive wear needs. Masaba is also the star behind the namesake Netflix show ‘Masaba Masaba’. The Indian biographical drama series sees her playing a version of herself to give a playful and fictional peek into her life in fashion and film.
The show opens with a scene between Masaba and her ex on-screen husband, played by actor Satyadeep Misra. Now, on January 27, 2023, the designer announced that she tied the knot IRL with Satyadeep.
The Wedding
The duo were reportedly dating for the past couple of years since the onset of the shooting of season 1 of the show. Instead of an OTT ceremony, they sealed the deal in a court marriage in Mumbai. “Married my ocean of calm, this morning. Here’s to many, many lifetimes of love, peace, stability & most importantly laughter. And thanks for letting me pick the caption - this is gonna be great,” the designer wrote on her Instagram.
In attendance was the couple’s kin and close friends. Among them were Masaba's mom Neena Gupta, her father Vivian Richards, Neena's husband Vivek Mehra, Satyadeep's mother Nalini and his sister Chinmaya. “The idea was to keep it very small and in the presence of our immediate family,” Masaba had revealed in a previous interview.
The Wedding Outfits
Naturally, the couple chose custom creations from the House of Masaba's new bridal collection, which is yet to be launched. The bride wore a “Barfi Pink ‘paan-patti’ lehenga paired with two dupattas - one in a Lime Green Wallflower Print dupatta with a sequinned border & the other with ‘open hearts’ embellished on it in rani pink. The custom border has the first ever Masaba motif - ‘the palm’ & the ‘chidiya’ which celebrates the union of tradition & freedom. A sign that women can believe in the institution of marriage yet follow their hearts & voice their thoughts freely,” she said to describe it. She accessorised it with my mom's jewellery including uncut diamond necklaces, earrings, haath phool and chaand-sitara on the head. The groom complemented her in a pastel kurta and bandi set. The family members, too, chose outfits from the House of Masaba.
The Post-Wedding Party
The festivities continued with a post-wedding party. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Rhea Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Soni Razdan and Konkona Sen Sharma, among many others celebrities were spotted at their wedding bash to celebrate the couple. Masaba's mother Neena Gupta and father Vivian Richards made emotional speeches in honour of the two, while friend and pastry chef Pooja Dhingra baked not one but two equally beautiful wedding cakes. The bride opted for a black and blue Azzedine Alaia gown and paired it with traditional south Indian jewellery by Shri Paramani Jewels.
