London is full of amazing places on which to get on bended knee. From St Paul’s to Big Ben or the top of the Shard, the city is blessed with movie-worthy locations to set the scene for that magic, heart-stopping moment.
When it comes to roping in London's architectural icons to help propose, this would-be fiancé chose the iconic Tower Bridge to pop the Big Q to his girlfriend, Preeti Kaur.
She tells us how it all went down:
“On Oct 3rd, I got ready to head out for dinner with Balraj Singh, my fiancé, which we do often. We got off at Liverpool Street station, and had a drink at the nearby Sushi Samba on the top floor of the Heron Tower before heading to London Bridge.
I’ve always wanted to visit the Tower of London so I half-thought Bal was going to surpise me with a tour. But we began heading to visitor centre on Tower Bridge instead, where signs told us that tours were finished for the day. I began pulling him away but Bal told a staff member we were there for a private tour. That’s when I got really excited!
Suddenly Bal disappeared, and I was annoyed he had left me on my own. But I wasn’t alone for long, another staff member escorted me to a 'waiting room' via a lift. I stepped into a dark room and peered around the corner. The glass-floor walkway were covered with flower petals, lanterns and candles lining a path towards Bal.
Of course, I was completely overwhelmed and had to hide for a minute to compose myself! Luckily Bal was still there once I’d calmed down.
My heart melted when I saw him standing nervously waiting for me, and I wanted to jump into his arms, but did the graceful thing and walked slowly over to him. The floor of the walkway is transparent, so it feels as though you have all of London at your feet.
Once I finally reached him, Bal took my hands in his and said he knew I was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He got down on one knee and said, “There's one question that I need to ask”.
And then bless him, he couldn't get the ring box smoothly out of his pocket, even though he practiced it and even placed the box in a certain position so it would open with the ring facing me!
When I saw the ring, I loved it instantly. I’m quite picky, so I was amazed he'd gotten it so right. Of course I said yes!
We toasted our proposal with champagne while taking in the stunning views of the city, then headed to Embankment for more bubbles with a view of the London Eye.
Next was dinner at The Shard, and then we stood gazing at Tower Bridge. I was still completely awestruck by the entire evening. I couldn't believe I'd just gotten engaged at such an iconic landmark.”
