Blackheads, whiteheads, spots, scars, pimples, pigmentation… we all struggle with some concern areas. While our imperfections make us perfect, there’s nothing wrong if you’d rather cover it all up. Makeup can work as an instant solution to camouflage them. While foundation and concealer can’t fix it, they can surely boost a little confidence when an untimely acne appears. But it’s important to use the right products, in the right order and in the right manner.

No matter your concern or reason, our step-by-step guide on concealing spots and scars with makeup (compiled with the help of makeup artist Vithya Visvendra) has got you, well, covered. The London-based makeup artist and educator has worked with several celebrities including Prasanna & Sneha, Meena and Amy Jackson. Keep reading to check out the expert’s tips and product recommendations you need to follow now.1. Vithya recommends starting with prepping and priming your skin. She begins by using Sunday Riley U.F.O. Acne Treatment Face Oil followed by a generous dollop of La Roche-Posay Moisturiser and a pump of Dr Dennis Gross Eye Serum.2. Next, she suggests going in with two layers of concealers. First on bare face and then post foundation. She generously applies MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear concealer in shades NW35 and NW30 directly over her spots and acne scars to begin with.3. She follows it up with Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick in shade 5.5 on the outer areas of the face and 5.25 in the lighter areas like cheeks. She seamlessly blends it with a Beauty Blender.4. For thorough concealing, she layers the foundation with the highly concentrated, creamy concealer, MAC Cosmetics Studio Finish Concealer in NC30 over the concern areas.
5. Lastly, to set it, she suggests using a product like Bobbi Brown Foundation Powder. She applies the product in shade Warm Honey 5.5. Using a brush by MAC Cosmetics, she presses the product in instead of rubbing it all over.
