Anushka Sharma took wedding fashion by storm in 2017 when she replaced traditional red bridal lehenga with a pastel pink Sabyasachi one. Soon enough, muted pinks became the go-to colour for many brides. However, a number of Bollywood brides went the classic way with crimson lehenga. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja picked an Anuradha Vakil number, followed by Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, both opted for Sabyasachi reds. While 2020 put large gatherings on hold, a number of celebrities such as Neha Kakkar and Kajal Aggarwal chose to tie the knot with a grand celebration, but with a small guest list.

Ravishing in Red
When in doubt, opt for red. A red lehenga is a fail-proof choice for traditional Hindu pheras. Kajal Aggarwal kept it safe for her wedding in October 2020 and picked an Anamika Khanna lehenga with Kashmiri resham thread work in colourful shades. The zardozi embroidery added an antique touch to the overall look. A maatha patti, and a polki and emerald jewellery set completed the look.
The same month Neha Kakkar showed us the perfect way to blend Indian silhouettes with a modern touch. For the pheras, the singer opted for a monotone red lehenga by Falguni Shane Peacock. Adding a Western touch to the traditional look was her red dupatta used as a veil. The result was a perfect amalgamation of traditional and contemporary design aesthetics. To break away from an overdose of red, she opted for a statement-making gold neckpiece and kaleeras. Glittery eyes and red lips worked as the final touch.
Less is More
Brides who don’t like to be OTT, this one’s for you. As intimate weddings become the way forward, choose lightweight ensembles that are high on fashion yet extremely comfortable. Less is surely more this season. Kajal Aggarwal and Neha Kakkar showed us the best way to slay lightweight outfits. When picking out a light outfit, prints and patterns play a crucial role. You can experiment with quirky prints and colours or stick to basic florals for a timeless look.
Pastel Hues
Runways were filled with pastel hues this year, and what’s not to love about these tones? Adding a soft feminine touch, subtle shades are ideal for a daytime ceremony. Kajal Aggarwal slayed a mint green Anita Dongre lehenga for her gaur pooja. Featuring floral motifs embroidered in soft pink and lavender, the lehenga was complemented with a contrasting pink dupatta. The perfect accompaniment to her soft colour ensemble were delicate flowers in the hairstyle.
For her Anand Karaj, Neha Kakkar also included a pastel colour palette. She picked out a breathtaking soft pink Sabyasachi lehenga, twinning with her husband Rohanpreet Singh. The set featured multicoloured embroidery in coral, fuchsia and baby pink along with zardozi flowers.
In December 2020, Gauhar Khan opted for an ivory gharara set by designer Saira Shakira from the label Laam. The outfit came with zari work and complemented with a chikankari dupatta.
Colour of The Year 2021
Mellow yellow no more, as Illuminating has been choose as one of Pantone’s colour of the year for 2021. And a radiant yellow sari is a winner.
