A Sneak Peek At Shantanu & Nikhil's Oasis Collection At India Couture Week 2021

When it comes to avant-garde drapes, Western sensibilities and Indian couture, Shantanu & Nikhil are the reigning champions. Known for their eclectic drapes and contemporary silhouettes, the designer duo give Indian ensembles a modern upgrade.

Day 4 of the FDCI Digital India Couture Week closed with a stellar show by the designer duo showcasing their Ceremonial couture collection ‘Oasis’. Standing out for its splendour and glamour, the collection takes inspiration from the designers’ response to the need of our times—beauty to those deprived of it, glamour to those missing it, power to those feeling helpless. The colour palette travels from gold to navy, reds to blacks, punctuated with multicolour couture prints. Contrast linings add a hint of fun, as well as the new cityscape-inspired motifs.

Making the dream come to life are Shantanu and Nikhil’s design signatures. The line-up focuses especially on menswear consisting of the famed draped kurtas for men in kaleidoscopic prints paired with armour-like bundis, shorter jackets and longer sherwanis, and military-inspired short bandh galas in black. Going a step further the duo introduced the new cowl trousers giving the dhoti silhouette an update. A new line of couture safas and stoles complements the looks along with jewelled brooches and regalia-inspired accessories.





For women, the designers blur the boundaries between ball gowns and lehengas, creating hybrid styles. Voluminous drapes are blended with constructed bodices and embellished with exquisite hand-embroideries. Shimmering with crystal and donned with leather appliqués they lend a powerful statement to each look. Taking centre stage is the crimson lehengas, a masterpiece of artisans.
