Esteemed London couturiers Traditions have been dressing brides, grooms and their wedding guests for years, and are among the most respected names in asian bridalwear. Seamlessly integrating new fashion with iconic silhouettes, they talk us through the trends for SS14 and the inspiration behind their vast collections.

What are the key trends for 2014?
Designers at Asian, Indian and Pakistani Bridal Fashion Weeks showed western style white dresses with beautiful embellishment, similar to the white gowns in our current collection. Red will forever be synonymous with Asian weddings, but nudes and pastels are emerging as major colour plays for SS14. Hand painted florals featured heavily at Indian Bridal Fashion Week, and we expect this trend trickle down to UK brides. Heavy silks and vibrant gauze, thin dupattas with heavy embellishment such as dabkas, gold thread, sequins and fine embroidery will also be popular.

What inspires your bridal collections?
Mainly western styles with heritage embroidery in Asian cloth making. By marrying exciting concepts and techniques with timeless Asian design, our collection is innovative, fresh and highly wearable. Regardless of the whims of fashion, when a bride visits a Traditions boutique, our knowledgeable sales consultants and in-house designer advise on the most flattering cuts for her figure.

What do you offer at your London boutiques?
We cater for the bride, groom and the entire wedding party. After the couple choose their outfits, we assist the rest of the family and close friends, checking all the outfits compliment each other without overshadowing the bride and groom. We have extensive experience in dressing people for special occasions and have thousands of beautiful garments to choose from, as well as a made-to-measure service to ensure every outfit fits flawlessly.

How long does it take to create a bespoke piece?
All Traditions’ handcrafted garments are made in India and can take from six to eight weeks to turn around, depending on how elaborate they are, so it’s best to consult with us in the early stages of wedding planning to ensure the perfect outfit is delivered in time for your Big Day.  Having said that, we’re among a handful of Asian  couturiers to create stunning dresses within tight time-frames and can turn around some pieces within four weeks. Items from our existing collection only need a few tweaks and we closely work with a network of UK-based seamstresses to adapt clothes quickly.

What sets you apart from other Asian bridal boutiques?
A bride’s wedding day revolves around her dreams, fantasies, and of course, her perfect dress. An Asian wedding has family at its heart, and we understand that family and culture play a major role in every celebration. We strive to bring out the princess in every bride and the prince in every groom. Customer orientation is at the forefront of our business. We can suggest their dream lengha, anarkali, sari or gown from our vast collection, or we can design something entirely unique. We stock over 400 bridal and 150 groomswear clothing spanning a range of designs, fabrics and embroideries, with outfits ranging from affordable pieces to extravagant outfits finished with semi-precious stones. We’re passionate that each client finds her perfect outfit because we believe every wedding dress should be exquisite, show-stopping and convey the individual spirit of every bride.
