Located in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, Ikigai is an independent, award-winning bar inspired by elements of Japanese culture. The name itself stems from a Japanese word that means ‘purpose’ or ‘reason for being’. Embracing the power of one’s purpose, the owners Luke Bensley and Tallulah have created a heavenly experience for a stylish clientele. From the minimalist, dark-lite interiors to the well curated menu, this trending location is a must-visit with your partner when in the city. The bar serves a selected range of Japanese spirits alongside a lush cocktail menu. The Instagram-able cocktails here feature seasonal Japanese ingredients mixed with a unique alchohol selection. They also serve an exquisite non-alcoholic menu infused with the same Japanese flavours. Authenticity is at the core of the bar experience at Ikigai.

Signature SipsKeep an open mind when stepping into this location as the bar menu is not the usual Cosmopolitan and Whiskey Sour. A stunning knockout here is the Ube Spiced Collins built with southeast Asian purple sweet potato infused with Haku vodka and winter spiced cordial leaving you with a spiced pumpkin flavour. If the menu feels a bit too unfamiliar, you can simple utter ‘Omakase’ which means ‘I’ll leave it up to you’ to the team of experts here. They will create a magical drink like none other based on your flavour of preference.
Sake SundaysTreat your beloved to a date night full of experimental cocktails at Ikigai. Particularly on the first Sunday of each month, the bar hosts ‘Sake and Soul Sundays’ that serves a bottle of Japanese lager and a heavenly bowl of Japanese soul food. The menu for this is altered every month to offer only the freshest seasonal ingredients. The bar also offers a ‘break even bottle’ where you can grab a bottle of the Sake your partner loved from your date night.
