Based in London’s east end, Rukon’s client base hails from all over the UK and he has worked at venues as far-flung as the Scottish Borders. Rukon offers a pre-wedding shoot service, an increasingly popular option for couples who want to capture the romance in their relationship before the celebrations begin. Clients come to London’s culturally-rich east where Rukon uses iconic landmarks and local beauty spots as the backdrop for unobtrusive images. He encourages couples to dress in normal clothes to allow them to relax and enable him to capture their natural dynamics. The added benefit of hiring Rukon for a pre-wedding photoshoot is that couples get a feel for his photography and his personality before booking him for the main event. They learn his techniques and build a relationship of trust so that he is not an unfamiliar face on the Big Day. ‘I don’t want it to be a process where I’m “the photographer” as such’, he explains. ‘I blend into the background and subtly capture those private, genuine moments between a bride, groom and their families. These make the most iconic pictures.’Combining fashion portraiture with candid shots, Rukon covers weddings for a minimum of eight hours, starting at the bride or groom’s home and staying right through to the first dance at the evening reception. It’s easy to forget that there are two people involved in the wedding and for this reason, Rukon works with other photographers who can also be hired to capture the groom’s story. Post wedding, couples are presented with a colour corrected DVD containing all the images of their wedding day. They can then select the images they want printed into a leather-backed, acrylic or metal fronted album, with sizes ranging from A6 through to A3. The A6 option makes a fantastic gift for close family members, while newlyweds are partial to the A4 or A3 variety. Once the photos are selected, it takes six to eight weeks for them to be printed on high quality paper and bound into a treasured keepsake.
