Having worked his magic on Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif, makeup artist Daniel Bauer is no stranger in the celebrity circles. The German creative who is now based in Mumbai met his now-husband and HR consultant Tyrone Braganza six years ago at a bar in Mumbai. “Daniel came with his friends and I was there with mine. We kept looking at each other, and soon managed to talk to each other. It felt a bit destined. In 2018, we went on a trip to Thailand. We got along like a house on fire.   Soon we were meeting every day.”

The church wedding
“I was working on a cruise ship at the time, Daniel decided to come to Florida with his parents to see me. He proposed on the ship. We got married on July 4, 2019 (Town Hall) and then July 6, 2019 in church in Frankfurt, Germany.”

The planning

“We were our own wedding planners—Daniel planned the German wedding, while I planned the Indian celebrations. Daniel has a better aesthetic for design and decor, so when it came to flowers and decor, he contributed and gave his inputs.”

The pre-wedding ceremony

Seafront property Bay 15 in Goa was chosen for the Indian wedding celebrations. January 3, 2020 kicked off the celebrations. “For the mehndi, we had invited some local girls to do the henna art on all the women that were present. Afterwards Daniel and I did a small bit on our palms. The girls kept waiting around as they were expecting the brides next. When we told them, it was quite a culture shock for the girls who have never seen or heard of a gay marriage.” The haldi on the same day was as vibrant as it could be. “By the end of the ceremony, we were completely drenched in turmeric!”

The pheras

The couple beautifully infused their Indian-German cultures for the two wedding ceremonies. “For the church wedding, we did a few German traditions like cutting the log, releasing the doves, cutting a heart shape on a white banner and passing through. The Indian wedding on January 4 started with a baraat. We also had a varmala ceremony followed by pheras.” Blush colours were chosen for the theme to match the beach wedding vibe. The grooms wore sherwanis designed by Falguni Shane Peacock.

The sangeet and reception

The same evening as the pheras was the sangeet party. The soirée saw cake cutting ceremony, speeches and a number of dance performances put together by their loved ones including actor and friend Katrina Kaif. The festivities concluded with a wedding reception for the 150 guests in attendance.
