Jo Malone London does special occasion scents like no one else, and their consultations – which include a free arm and hand massage - are the perfect mini treat for busy brides.
The complimentary sessions last for around an hour and you’ll discuss everything from your venue, your outfit, the weather, and the flowers to pin down your distinctive W-day scent.
The Global Flagship Store
Available across all stores as well as their standalone concessions, we headed to the global flagship store on London’s Regent Street for a consultation. Anyone who’s stepped foot inside a branch of Jo Malone will know just how special they are, but this one is more so.
As well as stocking the 28 main collection colognes, it also carries four limited edition fragrances, six colognes from the rare teas range and 13 from the archive, which can’t be found anywhere else.
Scent Layering
All Jo Malone’s colognes are unisex, but some lean towards ‘masculine’ (think earthy, salty and woody notes) while others have more of a ‘feminine’ vibe (citrus, floral, oriental). Many also come in luxurious body washes, shower oils and hand & body crèmes, so you can build the effect and extend the life of your scent by layering fragrance using different products.
Scent Combining
For something truly bespoke, look to Jo Malone’s scent combining – layering with different scents. Each scent works in harmony with the other, so you can marry differently scented products for a unique result: for instance, smooth on Peony & Blush Suede body crème (a bridal bestseller) over limbs before spritzing on the delicately floral Silk Blossom cologne (a Regent St exclusive). This enhances the common notes so you’ll get much more of a floral effect than you would by wearing either of the scents solo.
If you prefer floral with a sharper, fresher edge, try Wood Sage & Sea Salt body crème instead; it’ll conjure thoughts of a coastal garden in full bloom, perfect for any brides getting hitched by the sea.
Bride Ideas
Discussing every aspect of your wedding is vital; the more the consultants know, the better they can narrow down the vast selection for you. Some brides choose Wild Bluebell Cologne as their ‘something blue’, while others get English Pear & Freesia to match the freesias in their bouquet. The new Jasmine Sambac & Marigold Cologne Intense is a favourite for Indian brides; it’s vibrant, warm and heady (hence the Intense), an unquestionably traditional Indian fragrance that reminds us of exotic summer monsoons.
If the colognes last forever on skin, they stick around even longer on fabric and in hair. Spray a light veil onto your bridal hairstyle after hairspray, or dust carefully over your bridal lehenga the night before.
Wedding Décor with Scent
To really create a 360° effect, check out Jo Malone’s home fragrance line, which includes luxury 2.5kg, 200g and cute travel size candles ( for favours that definitely won’t get left behind) as well as 165ml reed diffusers, available in the brand’s most popular scents. Decorate with scent by placing candles around your mandap or arrange them with fresh blooms to create pretty reception centrepieces. You can lightly spray cologne onto linen napkins, chair ribbons, or, our favourite idea, spray on the edges of tablecloths so that the scent is released whenever guests move around.
Special Extra Touches
Once chosen, make your cologne or candles truly bespoke with hand engraving, available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Regent Street store. Have your initials and/or wedding date etched onto the glass bottle or across candle lids for £15. As a final touch, you can have Jo Malone’s famous cream and black boxes embossed with initials of your choice. After all, a great wedding is all in the details.
