If you’re a classic bride, you must have chosen a time-honoured bridal outfit, went for timeless décor, regional menu and the likes for every single aspect of your big day. But for every timeless bride, there’s someone who wants to go the modern route. It’s only natural that your wedding cake should reflect your personality too. When it comes to crafting custom cakes, Kiran Mandalia of Cake Boulevard tops our list. The UK-based cake artist is renowned for her couture creations and never recreating the same cake.
Ahead, Kiran gives her recommendations on how to pick the perfect cake according to your personality type.
The Classic Bride
“I would certainly recommend a traditional fondant tiered cake in matte white for the classic bride, with a string of sugar pearls at the base of each tier. Any design using stencil or brush embroidery needs to remain symmetrical and set all around the cake to ensure the style remains timeless. The cake would be finished with a floral bouquet top in white or blush.”
The Modern Bride
“The modern bride would be steered towards separator floating tiers to provide a tall structure. The cake would be in one shade of fondant either white or champagne gold but would have a pearl shimmer. The décor would be bold and potentially adding geometric design to the cake in a metallic shade. The flowers would be minimalistic and set on the divider tier in an art deco style with 5 -10 flowers to cascade up and down the cake from the divisional structure. I would opt for the flower be bold / darker shade from the couples’ décor and outfits.”
The Boho Bride
“A boho chic wedding cake would certainly be tiered with a buttercream finish. I would create a cake with the upper tiers as semi-naked, whilst the base tier would be covered in buttercream. The texture on the buttercream would remain rustic with some buttercream palette knife floral work. Florals would include wildflowers, spray roses, Ranunculus and Gyp in pastels and some bold hues.”
The Romantic Bride
“There is always a theme to be had and roses on a tall structure are a must with the tier in a champagne ivory with a shimmer pearlised overlay. I would steer towards having laser cut mirror initials set in a cake with a cut through segment in the cake which has a beautiful laser cut gate set in front that can be opened to reveal the initials. The gate would be surrounded with hand painted floral art as well as sugar crafted leaves to add a 3-dimensional finish. A flowing rose flower bed would be set under the grand cake with foliage. Colours would be matched the theme or the couples’ outfits.”
The Avant-Garde Bride
“A mixture of round and hexagonal tiers would suit this bride. One tier would have a pop of colour to match the theme and another would be covered in romantic printed versus with a ripped effect with the edges painted in gold. Texture and décor would be set in a layered effect and would include stenciling on top. The overall finish would be sleek with a rustic edge. Colours would be bold mixed with metallic touches. Flowers would include orchids with metallic foliage set more centrally on the cake.”
