The UK-based wedding photographer and founder of Photography By Gagan takes a detail oriented approach, while cultivating an atmosphere that allows the couple and the guests to have fun. “My signature style is creating images that are natural, light and timeless,” he shares with us. Having shot weddings across cultures and cities around the world, the industry maverick has mastered the art of delivering wedding photographs that are likely to get double tapped on social media.

“A pre-wedding shoot is not only a great idea for memories and try new ideas, but also apt to use these pictures with your wedding invites. When working with couples, I strive to customise themes in line with their style and their story. You don't have the time stress and location limitations so put yourself out of your comfort zone and try something completely different.” Gagan recommends personalising the shoot with meaningful elements. This can include your furry friends, your first date venue, your favourite holiday destination or even an activity that you enjoy together at home.

2.Don’t be afraid of a unique element

Whether you’re breaking the norm with an unconventional lehenga or an out-of-the-box location, Gagan feels brides shouldn’t refrain from making a statement with their pictures. “People love to see unique weddings, amazing venues, setups, and wedding fashion trends on social media. So, don’t hold back.”

3. Post candid moments

Gagan feels more than the choreographed pictures and portraits, it is the candid moments that people are drawn to. Depending on how comfortable you are, share snaps from sangeet dance rehearsals, laughter, tears, and more.

4. Try a dedicated photo wall
Photo walls are great alternatives to photobooths. From a floral wall to a simple backdrop with your wedding hashtag LED light, there are several options. “I love clay walls and ethnic styled backgrounds. They provide amble amount of textures and a beautiful earthly tone.”

5. Add some props
“Personalised wedding props and speech bubbles will add some quirk to your photobooth. You can also highlight your wedding theme or some of your favourite things with the props. It will offer you and your wedding guests the opportunity to have some fun at the festivities,” shares Gagan. Some playful yet simple ideas include bowls of confetti, whimsical masks, balloons, florals as crowns or backdrops, theme-based costume accessories like sunglasses, wigs and hats.

6. Let there be light

“Florals and natural light will never go out of style. Lighting is a fundamental part of my photography. I will always choose lighting over location. However, I would recommend keeping it simple, you don't need to setup 3-4 lights to create nice image. Being a natural light photographer the sun is my only light, so effectively I am only using one light.”

7. Go outdoors

“Another trend I set recently was taking a bride outdoors into a park in the morning for bridal prep. This trend has caught on very quickly as I have seen lots of other photographers using this concept. Sunrise or early morning shots combined with green landscape provides a great setting.”

8. Stick to minimal edits
“When it comes to colours, keep it clean and simple. Over-editing images detracts from the core essence of an image,” warns Gagan.
