Eye Jogia Photo + Cinema reveals the skills you need to preserve and protect wedding memories for a couple to reflect upon in years to come.Etiquette:There’s a huge social element to photography as you’re dealing with people from a variety of different backgrounds, tastes and levels of confidence when it comes to being in the spotlight. Ask your photographer how they handle different scenarios. For instance, Hindu and Sikh ceremonies have multiple events happening simultaneously, so balancing priorities on the day should be at the top of a photographer’s checklist. Events could be delayed, running-orders may change, and you need to remain technically competent throughout every single mishap whilst dealing with multiple pressures. Technical Proficiency:It’s tempting to say the best equipment will give you the best results, and to some degree that’s true. It’s important for a photographer to understand the basics and technicalities of shooting before delving into sophisticated technology. Having a background in analogue film, I found results were unforgiving if you made a mistake as there’s no chance to review an image straight away with film roll. I grew up with the discipline of getting it right first time on camera. Now, cameras are more sophisticated, with increasing numbers of technical specifications. You need to understand the machine itself, so it’s not the one driving you. Once you have the basics mastered, only then can you get the best results from newer technology. Post-production:Within 8-12 weeks, we invite the couple for a home-cinema review. It’s a personal, and extremely emotional time for them to soak up the experience. For the couple, it’s like living through the wedding for the first time because on the day you are so caught up emotionally, it goes by in a flash. To maintain the quality of work flow, post-production editing is carried out in-house. Many photographers choose to out-source this, which is fine if it works for their business model, but for more control over consistency and creative vision, this is done in-house. Creativity:If you can’t respond to emotions, you can’t capture what you see and feel throughout the wedding events. About 95% of the day, is not directing a posed shot, but working with instinct to get the best results. When people see the end results, they should be able to connect with the photos on an emotional level. Ultimately, taking excellent photos relies upon the artist’s ability to create an authentic and everlasting image.
